30 Years of Flood Control
At Flood Control International we have been designing, supplying and installing flood protection solutions for 30 years [1994-2024]. As we celebrate this milestone our latest blog looks back at where it all began and some of the groundbreaking flood solutions we’ve developed over the years.
Where did it all begin?
Cornwall 1994 – a property belonging to a local couple flooded, so they began the search for a company that could supply them with robust flood barriers. To their surprise there wasn’t a single UK-based supplier that could help them! Determined to find a solution they searched further afield and ordered barriers from a German company, impressed by the effectiveness of these barriers, the couple saw a gap in the UK market and decided to address it themselves. This led to the establishment of a UK-based flood solutions company, Flood Control Ltd. The new company focused purely on UK projects until 2003, at which point it became active internationally and re-named Flood Control International.
In 2010 Flood Control International was purchased by its current owners, who reimagined the company, and to date we’re proud to have completed over 3,000 flood protection projects across the globe! We estimate that we’ve protected property worth in excess of £100 billion, not to mention the environmental and human value that these projects have delivered.
Floods can be commercially and personally devastating. Whether it’s flash flooding from heavy rain, sewer overflow or storm surge, the effects on buildings and businesses can be catastrophic. Our engineered flood barriers defend nuclear power stations, utility substations, factories, corporate headquarters, hotels, shopping malls and residential blocks.
Our team of in-house designers has extensive experience, handling projects ranging from £25k to £2.5m+. Some notable projects include flood protection for all UK nuclear power stations, the European headquarters of Google, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter) in Dublin, and various National Grid power stations and Environment Agency riverside defences. Flood Control International offer flood barriers, floodgates and flood doors, and we were the first company to install designed glass floodwalls, in Dublin in 2010.
